France Musique - Philippe Cassard évoque les récitals Salle Érard
At 13 rue du Mail, in Paris’s 2nd arrondissement, two absolutely sublime recitals were given, featuring Franz Liszt, Frédéric Chopin, Schumann, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Ravel, and others. Today, that same address is still home to the Erard firm’s showroom, where Erard pianos, harpsichords, and harps were displayed and offered for sale. And, something not always known, Liszt was Erard’s piano demonstrator for fifteen years, until he gave up the post, on his own recommendation, in fact, to the young César Franck. Well, this absolutely magnificent showroom, photographs of which can be found online, is reopening for two concerts, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They will take place on Friday, 14 March at 8 p.m., and Saturday, 15 March, also at 8 p.m. On 14 March, the young French pianist Clément Chatelain will play works by Liszt, Ravel, and Prokofiev, preceded by Schubert’s Fantasy for piano four hands, with my colleague Cédric Pescia.
Then, the following evening, Cédric Pescia himself will perform the complete Nocturnes of Chopin. It is not to be missed. This is new in Cédric Pescia’s repertoire, and I can tell you, having heard a few of them, that it is absolutely wonderful. It is a whole universe, a whole touch, a whole sense of phrasing, a sense of singing that Cédric Pescia brings to the music. So: the Salle Erard, 13 rue du Mail, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. Tickets can be booked on the website of Clément Chatelain, the young pianist who trained with Cédric Pescia in particular, as well as with Olivier Gardon. Clément Chatelain, one word, Chatelain, C-H-A-T-E-L-A-I-N ; clementchatelain.com. You can book there for both concerts, on 14 and 15 March [2025] at 8 p.m. And then, a festival that is about to be created and that is being put together…
